DD: Joseph Cornell

Joseph Cornell lived between 1903-1972 and was an American artist who was heavily influenced by the Surrealists (Surrealism was all about fusing dreams with reality and confusing the two). He worked in different types of artistic media, one of which was sculptures from found objects. He liked to make boxes using objects and images that he found and would create a story with these thrown out objects by giving them a new purpose.
What you will do:

-Choose one of the above images and come up with your own idea as to what the story or dream may have been about

-Think of what images you will want to put on your clay box (maybe come up with your own story or reference a dream you have had)

-Start sketching ideas for your clay box

Fonts! FoNtS!

Various fonts carry a lot of meaning and character in the way that they look. You must remember this when you are choosing a font for your next project—a font can completely change an intended message depending on how or where you use it. Look at this illustration as an example:
“Stop” on the left seems to almost be screaming at you. Whereas, “stop” on the right is very timid, faint and almost weak.Fonts can definitely have personalities… Finding one with the right personality balance can be incredibly difficult.
What you are going to do:

-Think of an appropriate title for your album cover

-Think of the mood of that title/music you listened to/abstract painting you've created

-What font best captures this mood?

-Visit for ideas! (Or come up with your own)

-This is an art...so take your time, draw thoughtfully, and be aware of PROPORTION, MOOD, and SPACE
